about

This piece is a text-sound composition based on two original poems, entitled WAITING and LOVE respectively, written by Vivian Sheng, who is also the vocalist. Vivian Sheng has also directed a video to accompany this compositional treatment of her poems, and you can view it at youtu.be/th-wyXvGzTY .

This vocal and text composition hopes to take listeners inside the fantastical worlds created by the two poems. Through deconstructing the imagery within the poems and applying different techniques to different parts, the composer hopes to enhance the meaning and interpretation beyond the syntax of the words. This means that even for people who cannot understand the meaning of the words, they can feel the images within.

This piece was created for a compositional assignment in MUSC255 (Intro to Electroacoustic Composition).

As a musician with years of vocal and instrumental training who loves experimenting with different sounds and technologies, I aspire to create an immersive musical experience for my audience. I have been studying music at the Queen's University for two years, focusing on writing electroacoustic music, soundtracks for short films as well as ballads. I aim to develop a career in making experimental music and doing sound editing for films.
