about

Dimitri Georgaras - Piano and Programming

Two microphones are placed in front of two speakers to generate controlled feedback tones, accompany the live piano. The striking of a piano key changes the frequency response of a digital filter in the microphone’s feedback path. The result is the feedback tones locking on to the changing frequencies of the piano, extending harmonics and partials that are otherwise unheard.

Dimitri Georgaras is an Ottawa-born sound artist, composer, and instrument builder. He has recently completed a degree in electrical engineering and electroacoustic music composition, with his passion lying in the intersection of the two. Recent works include both acoustic and electronic feedback, cassette based sound installations, and special processing of acoustic piano.

Recorded live at the Rehearsal Hall of the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, March 5 2020.

Binaural mix by Dimitri Georgaras.
